Handmade Electronic Music

Culture & History

This section is the soul of Handmade Electronic Music. What is the value of any of the technical information if it can't contribute to beautiful sounds, beautiful objects and beautiful communities? Eighteen artists from around the globe consented to write about their scenes and specialties. I've also included modest updates of two short sidebar essays I wrote for the first edition of the book, back in 2006 (Circuit Bending and Visual Music), as well as an overview of the hacking scene in 2009 that served as the concluding chapter of the second edition (The Future Is Now) -- all removed from the current edition to make room for newer things.

While waiting for Routledge's designers to complete the official website I've made simple pdfs of these essays with their images embedded. I apologize for my complete lack of design sense, but the content remains vital. And a warning: the pdfs are big and don't load instantly, mea culpa.
